
A public institution of higher learning and member of the UNA Europa Alliance, the Freie Universität de Berlin is among Germany’s most prestigious universities. In 2007 and 2012 it was awarded the prize for German Excellence Initiative (Initiative d’excellence allemande Exzellenzinitiative).
Its archaeological cursus (Department for Studies of Antiquity / Altertumswissenschaften) has a rich programme from the bachelor’s to the doctorate, Prehistory to Antiquity, and runs many excavations around the world. The institution is most notably recognized for its deep expertise in migration archaeology in the Neolithic and in the urbanization of the Greek and Roman worlds.
